Carlson, Gail R.; And Others
These parent resource materials address seven topics of concern to parents of preschool, elementary school, and adolescent children. The first brochure offers tips on choosing child care, discussing in-home, family, center, and infant-toddler care. A checklist is included for assessing day care programs, caregivers, and environments. The second brochure offers advice on communication between home and school, communication at home, talking with teachers, and community involvement. The third brochure provides suggestions intended to help families follow through on sharing the responsibility of household tasks. Related materials, such as charts of household tasks, are included along with a learning activity for husbands and wives which is designed to increase awareness of family patterns of task allotment. The fourth brochure, "For Fathers Only," describes characteristics of infants for new and expectant fathers, and offers advice about adjusting to parenthood and getting involved in the care of the child. Twelve guidelines for fatherhood are presented. The three concluding brochures focus on stress, pointing out how parents, caregivers, and teachers can help children cope with stress, and indicating ways of managing teenage stress. Discussions concern the nature of stress, children's response to stress, and what to do if suicide is threatened. (RH)
