Degrees and Other Formal Awards Conferred. Kentucky Colleges and Universities, 1986.
Kentucky State Council on Higher Education, Frankfort.
Data on degrees awarded between July 1, 1985 and June 30, 1986 by Kentucky's state-supported and private colleges and universities, business colleges, and theological seminaries are presented. Separate data are included for senior institutions, junior colleges, and the community college system. In addition to total degrees conferred, data are presented on degrees conferred by specific institutions, as well as by degree field for specific institutions and types of institutions. The following degree levels are covered: associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and first professional. A brief narrative summary indicates that nursing was the most popular degree field followed by business at the associate degree level. The majority of bachelor's degrees were conferred in business and management, and secondly, in education. A high proportion of the master's and specialist degrees were in education with business and management running second. Of the first-professional degrees awarded by public universities, 52.8% were in law, 31.4% in medicine, 13.5% in dentistry, and 2.3% in pharmacy. Doctoral degrees were most often in education, life sciences (biology), and psychology at the public universities. (SW)
