7th Grade Life Science Units Modified for ESOL Students--Middle School.

A set of supplemental materials for teaching grade 7 life sciences to beginning and intermediate students of English as a second language (ESL) includes an introductory section on teaching the ESL student and six instructional units. The introductory section discusses the special classroom needs and characteristics of the ESL student and provides suggestions for testing these students, a sample cloze test at two levels, specific behavioral objectives, suggestions for classroom activities and techniques, and a list of additional resources. The instructional units contain a variety of activities for teaching these topics: laboratory safety and equipment, the scientific method, the microscope and its use, the cell, plants and photosynthesis, and the frog. The activities include identification games, comprehension exercises, and several kinds of word games. (MSE)
