This annual report for the 1984-85 school year in the Des Moines (Iowa) Public Schools includes information on the academic progress being made by students and reports on various aspects of the operations of the school district. The Plan for Excellence, a blueprint adopted in early 1985 for use in Iowa's largest school district, was used to fine tune the curriculum. The report is intended for use as a ready-reference for administrators, parent organization officers, and public officials and consists almost exclusively of statistical charts and tables. The report is divided into seven sections presenting data on the following: (1) curriculum implementation, testing, and student achievement; (2) student attendance and enrollment; (3) staff size, salary, retirement, and days employed; (4) physical plant; (5) finance; (6) school boundaries (presented in map form); and (7) special services provided.
