Office of Student Financial Assistance (ED), Washington, DC.
Pell Grant program activities for 1984-1985 are reported in data tables and narrative sections. The most significant program activities during the 1984-1985 award period are highlighted, including general information such as the total number of applications processed, the number of grant recipients, types and numbers of colleges participating in the program, and income-related characteristics of applicants and recipients. An in-depth analysis of selected demographic characteristics of recipients and the impact of these characteristics on grant levels is provided. Of concern are factors such as recipient age, family income, dependency status, and educational cost. Information is also presented about the eligibility status of applicants by income level and the interrelationship of dependent students' earnings and family income. Summary statistics are included on applicants' reporting of Veteran's Educational Benefits and student Social Security benefits. Additional contents are: analysis of the effects of family income on grant levels for validated students; information on the Multiple Data Entry application processing system; summary information on colleges participating in the Pell Grant program; and a glossary.
