A Multicultural Early Childhood Resource Guide (Revised).
New York State Education Dept., Albany. Div. of Civil Rights and Intercultural Relations.
This revised guide provides a resource of ideas and activities to help introduce the young child to multicultural education. While the chief aim of the guide is to provide teaching strategies, it is also designed to give teachers, who are not experts in this field, certain basic information and update their awareness of current developments in the area of early childhood education. The guide offers ideas that explore such concepts as self-esteem, similarities and differences, and cultural pluralism. The main areas of concentration include: (1) multiculturalism in children; (2) preparing early childhood educators; (3) educational practices and materials; (4) parental involvement; and (5) multicultural activities. Selected references, sources of additional published materials, and information resources are included at the end of the guide. (PS)
