Fall 1986 Enrollment Update: Trends and Implications. Fourth Report in the "Planning for Change" Series.
Coffey, Janis Cox; Jones, Randall D.
A review and analysis of demographic trends in the Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD) is presented, along with a discussion of the effects that changes in students' age, sex, and ethnicity have on enrollments, student contact hours, day/evening programs, and credit load. Following introductory comments on the use of the trend analysis for college planning, an overview of changes in community college students since 1960 is presented. Next, student enrollment and demographic data are provided for the fall semesters from 1978 to 1986, focusing on: overall enrollment trends; trends in age, gender, and ethnicity of students; changes in credit load and day/evening attendance patterns resulting from changes in student clientele; and trends in weekly student contact hours. This section concludes with profiles for each college in the LRCCD. The next sections consider implications of district and statewide trends for planning in the LRCCD. Concluding comments underscore the district's responsibility for responding appropriately to changing enrollments and demographics. Appendices provide fall 1986 demographic data for each LRCCD college. (EJV)
