Vocational Guidance and Placement Planning Guide.
South Carolina State Dept. of Education, Columbia. Office of Vocational Education.
This guide was developed to aid vocational counselors and job placement coordinators in planning activities for students and potential students of vocational education programs. It contains a vocational guidance model which clarifies what vocational guidance services mean and what local planners should include in their activities. The model shows an interrelatedness among six major thrusts with career development being a central theme of vocational guidance. All of the thrusts depicted in the model represent essential services that should be available to students in vocational education programs. The guide is divided into six sections which correspond to the major thrusts identified in the model: (1) career development; (2) recruitment; (3) guidance and counseling; (4) placement; (5) follow-up and follow-through; and (6) consultation. Each section contains an outline of the perceived needs of the topic, an overview of the topic relative to vocational guidance, and some suggested activities and strategies that may be useful in meeting student needs. The guide also contains a planning and administration section and appendices which provide guidance in implementation of program activities. (NB)
