Performance-Based Education (PBE) Curriculum. Final Report.
This report presents many of the typical questions with which college deans of instruction will be confronted in planning a competency-based technical education (CBTE) system. Under each of 10 major questions that explore the issues of CBTE, a number of more specific questions are listed. The 10 major questions concern the overall approach, program structure, student outcomes, provision of instruction, adaptation of physical facilities, management system, student evaluation, program reporting and documentation, program evaluation and improvement, and personnel training. An outline of those major and specific questions follows. In section 2 of the report, various alternative answers to each specific question are presented which are intended to be representative of the various options typically available to college deans. Comments are included for each answer. They may cite advantages and disadvantages of the option, cautions, and general considerations in evaluating particular alternatives being considered. In the third part of the report, information and materials are provided for planning a specific CBTE program. Planning forms and instructions for completing them are included. A short term plan of action with activities and timelines for implementing CBTE concludes the document. (YLB)
