An Integrated Vocational Education and Math Skills Model. Inservice Guide.
Corvallis School District 509J, OR.
This guide is directed toward school districts that wish to become involved in an integrated vocational education and mathematics skills program and plan to incorporate a mathematics equivalency credit option. The guide contains materials that can be used to conduct three workshops for teachers on integrated mathematics-vocational courses. The first workshop is a three-to-four-hour orientation inservice session that involves both mathematics and vocational instructors. The focus is on the rationale for mathematics equivalency and the criteria for meeting mathematics requirements. The second workshop is a one-day work session for mathematics and vocational instructors. This session identifies course sequences, reviews curriculum guides, works through mathematics checklists to determine specific mathematics concepts being taught, approves course sequences for credit, and selects content units to be developed for presentation at the final workshop. The final workshop is a one-half day professional development inservice in which both mathematics and vocational instructors make presentations on how selected concepts are taught in their subject areas. Handouts and transparency masters are included in the workshop materials. The guide also contains a general checklist for planning, conducting, and evaluating inservice sessions. (KC)
