Upper Elementary Science Education with an Emphasis on Social Relevance.
Hochstetler, Helen L.
Designed to investigate the significance of the relationship between science education and social issues, this study presents a rationale and suggestions for incorporating elements of social responsibility into the elementary science curriculum. A review of the literature consists of annotations which focus on: (1) the importance of social issues in science education; (2) social issues and possible topics; (3) goals for social/science education; and (4) methods and strategies. A glossary is provided of terms which are referred to in the literature review. A summary section reviews social issues that can be presented in the classroom and highlights strategies for integrating relevant social issues into the curriculum. (ML)
