L'Afrique en Francais (Africa in French). African Outreach Series, No. 6.
Arlabosse, Severine
This handbook on francophone Africa is designed to provide supplemental material for a French class. Its objectives are: (1) to provide the teacher with ready-to-use material as an alternative to a textbook; (2) to present French speaking countries other than France and especially to present francophone African countries from an African viewpoint; (3) to enhance the student's language ability; and (4) to encourage critical thinking. The handbook is divided into two parts. The first part introduces students to francophone Africa through readings, activities, and sample units. The text is written at elementary and intermediate levels of French. A French-English glossary in the margins and a set of comprehensive questions are provided for each chapter. The second part provides support for a 30-minute videotape of interviews with African students. Notes, suggestions, a vocabulary list, and a listening comprehension test are included for each video segment. An 8-page list of resources for the teacher is included. (APG)
