Mississippi State Dept. of Education, Jackson. Bureau of School Improvement.
This document is a decision-making tool on the instructional process in Mississippi. It attempts to standardize curriculum content by identifying core skills that must be included in subject areas in kindergarten through grade 12. Subjects covered are reading, English/language arts, mathematics, art, computer education, foreign languages, health and physical education, journalism, music, oral communication, science, and social studies. Each subject area contains the following components: a statement of philosophy and aims for the subject; an identification of broad teaching goals; a skills continuum for each grade level or course; a course description that includes appropriate course titles and summaries of course content; course listings that indicate amount of Carnegie unit credit awarded. Appendices contain outlines of a junior ROTC program, a driver education program, and an advanced placement program. (APG)
