Designed to provide easily accessible, comparative information on graduate programs and research in physics and in fields based upon the principles of physics, this directory contains descriptions of programs offered at institutions of higher learning in North America. The entries are organized geographically for institutions in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Within these sections, entries are presented alphabetically by state or province and within each state or province alphabetically by the name of the institution. Appendices serve to assist in the location of the particular institution and contain: (1) geographic listing of departments; (2) alphabetical listing of departments; (3) alphabetical listing of departments by highest degree granted; (4) research specialties of doctoral programs in physics, astronomy, and related fields; (5) areas of concentration of master's programs in physics, astronomy, and related fields; and (6) summary of data from the 1985-86 Graduate Programs Book.
