Iowa State Univ. of Science and Technology, Ames. Dept. of Home Economics Education.
The 2-part student workbook for mainstreamed learning and mentally disabled high school students contains 12 units intended to provide supplementary instruction in the Contemporary Parenting Choices Curriculum in the home economics class. This unit, the sixth in the Relationships part of the workbook, focuses on the decision to parent and includes individual lessons on ways people parent, parental responsibilities in caring for children, what children learn from the examples of their parents, what parents can expect of their children, how much it costs to raise a child, how parenthood changes one's life, why people choose to have or not have children, personal feelings about parenthood, and responsibilities in making a decision to parent. Each lesson typically provides lesson objectives, definitions of key vocabulary terms, workbook activities, a brief discussion of the topic, and a review activity. The material is intended to be used with the special Teachers Guide and the other components of the Contemporary Parenting Choices Curriculum. (DB)
