The second part of a parenthood education curriculum series intended for use in high school home economics classrooms, this second module focuses on sexuality and the adolescent with three major competencies as goals: (1) ability to describe how teenagers' concept of self is affected by growth and development in adolescence; (2) ability to explain the influence of interpersonal relationships within and outside the family on sexual attitudes and behavior during adolescence; and (3) the ability to describe the stages of pregnancy and the decisions to be addressed in each stage. Presented for each major competency, in a double page, four-column format, are supporting subcompetencies, generalizations, learning activities, and suggested resources. Subcompetencies include: values and the emerging self, developmental tasks of teenagers, social development, sex role socialization, intimacy, principles of human communication, family and peer influence on sexual values and behaviors, sexual behavior choices, responsibilities of a mature sexual relationship, meaning of conception, common signs of pregnancy, choices during pregnancy, and childbirth. Some activities are identified as possibly sensitive and requiring evaluation of class and community before use. Appended are various handouts and assignments.
