Elementary School 4-5 Career Guidance User's Handbook. Portland Public Schools Career and Vocational Guidance Project, 1986.
Portland Public Schools, OR. Career and Vocational Education Dept.
This document presents one of three elementary school level career handbooks designed to complement the existing middle school and high school handbooks and to meet the career goals developed by the Oregon Department of Education. This grade four and five handbook is intended as a tool for teachers to use in meeting the career education goals of their students, and for schools to use in developing a team approach to career education and awareness that involves a career education coordinator, teachers, counselors, parents, and other staff personnel. The handbook is divided into three sections. Section I contains an introduction to career education and background information on career education in kindergarten through grade 10. Student goals are listed and minimal expectancies for kindergarten through grade five are given. Career guidance activities are suggested and forms and worksheets are provided. Section II contains a suggested grade four and five matrix, student activities, worksheets, and handouts for use in the career education program. The activity-by-month matrix lists activities for grades four and five. Five program goals are suggested for each grade and each goal is accompanied by a set of career guidance activities. Title, grade level, objectives, time, materials, and procedures are included for each of the 58 career guidance activities. Section III contains information on resources, including a 16-page annotated recommended buying list and a 4-page audiovisual resource list. (NB)
