Instructional activities in this manual are designed for integration into the existing curriculum framework for health education. The activities are organized in sections corresponding to major topics. Each section begins with background information intended to provide content background for the teacher. Each activity includes a curriculum framework reference, a title, intended grade level, and a materials/preparation section. The procedure for each activity includes a brief description of the instructional methods employed. The following major topics are covered: (1) the mouth; (2) organisms in the mouth; (3) tooth development; (4) tooth decay; (5) preventing decay problems; (6) preventing periodontal diseases; (7) smokeless tobacco; (8) malocclusions; (9) accidents; (10) dental history; and (11) dental professionals. The appendices provide a glossary, a curriculum framework, and a list of activities by grade, indexed to the main body of the document. (JD)
