The New Right's Education Agenda for the States: A Legislator's Briefing Book.
Martin, Sandra
This monograph offers a critical response to the platform for restructuring the public educational system proposed by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) in its "Education Source Book: The State Legislators' Guide to Reform." The source book offers more than a dozen model state statutes that would effect a massive shift of public, tax-generated funds to the support and encouragement of private education. A bill-by-bill critique of the proposals is presented and right wing plans to spend public money for private education are analyzed. Under discussion are the ALEC approach to education and how each of the proposals for legislation would affect the role of parents, teachers, and the states in education. (JD)
