The Science Module for Grade 6 is designed as a 12-week block of instruction within the Science and Health course for students in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The purpose of this publication is to provide a basic science curriculum that builds on the K-5 science experience and emphasizes science as fundamental to good citizenship and effective participation in today's society. The contents of this publication are intended to facilitate the planning of classroom instruction to promote the concepts and skills identified by the school district's curriculum. Contents include: (1) a summary of representative objectives; (2) time schedule and sequence of units; (3) teacher responsibilities; (4) guidelines for assignment of homework; (5) units of study (containing the objectives, content outlines and continuum skills for six units); (6) a sample teacher-directed lesson; (7) teaching strategies; (8) evaluation procedures; and (9) tips for parents. Appendices consist of a list of resources and the science continuum for both elementary and secondary levels. (ML)
