Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs 1985-86 Annual Report.
Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs, Phoenix.
A summation of the successful Sunset Review process and a legislative package addressing issues raised during the Review highlight the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs' 1986 annual report. The summation identifies changes in Commission organization and programs and clarifies Commission powers and duties. The legislative package includes a discussion of the major issue raised during the review--need to clarify and improve state-tribal relationships--and recommendations for a statewide policy to educate Arizona citizens and officials about the need for state-tribal cooperation. After reviewing Commission and related meeting attendance, the report summarizes 12 projects completed during the year on issues such as an Economic Business Development Center proposal; an informal meeting with tribal leaders, legislators, and the Commission; state/federal legislative process workshop; Indian Veterans Benefits Seminar; tribal program insurance conference; tribal visitations; Indian impact on Arizona's economy study; and imitation of Indian arts and crafts legislation. A financial report details the allocation of $153,000. A list of Commission members, map of Arizona Indian reservations, population and acreage figures for Arizona reservations, list of Commission publications, and directory of reservations and their state legislative representatives are included.
