Includes reports and evaluations of the full-day kindergarten pilot program implemented in Hamilton Township, Hamilton Square, New Jersey in the 1982-83 school year and continued in 1983-84. Consisting mainly of 12 appendices, the 1982 interim report concerns program planning, curriculum development, legal issues, site visits, publicity, foci of research efforts, pre-kindergarten screening, committee meetings, and a teacher workshop. The 1983 interim evaluation reproduces the 1982 interim report; includes minutes of additional committee meetings; a description of the program evaluation including questionnaires for parents, aides, and professional staff; as well as findings, conclusions, and recommendations. The 1983 full-scale evaluation reviews background, achievement, behavioral, attendance, and attitudinal data; logs of unusual occurrences; and formative evaluation activities. Findings showed that in comparison with children attending half-day programs, children in full-day kindergarten displayed better socioemotional development, received higher grades on report cards, and scored higher on standardized tests. Comments from parents, staff, teachers, and resource specialists are appended. The 1984 second interim evaluation reproduced and extended the full-scale evaluation with information about first graders who had been involved in the pilot program. Compared with first grade students who had attended half-day kindergarten, those who experienced the full-day program showed significantly higher achievement in all academic subject areas. (RH)
