Minorities in Higher Education. Fourth Annual Status Report.

Information on minority participation in U.S. higher education is presented. Educational developments from 1970 through 1983 and projections through 1993 are covered, with attention to enrollments, remedial education, faculty, degrees, and majors, and trends for minorities. Also covered are: desegregation, historically black colleges, the shortage of minority teachers, and factors influencing access (dropout rates, testing, admission standards, and financial aid). Data include: trends in total enrollment by level of institution and race/ethnicity and citizenship status, fall 1976 to fall 1982; 1982 enrollments by sex for full-time and part-time students by control and type of institutions for Black, Non-Hispanics, American Indian/Alaskan Natives, Asian or Pacific Islanders, Hispanics, and White, Non-Hispanics; Black students enrolled in all institutions and in traditionally Black institutions by type and control of institution, fall 1976 and fall 1982; total and Black graduate and first professional enrollments by enrollment status; college headcount enrollment in the West by state, level, and racial/ethnic group; medical school enrollments, by race, ethnicity, and national origin; earned degrees conferred by level of degree and recipients' race/ethnicity; and race/ethnicity of faculty and administrators.
