The MCMI General Findings.
Hudzik, John K.; Curry, Theodore H., II
This report summarizes both the findings obtained from an analysis of managerial jobs in courts and the options that exist for future management training of Michigan court personnel. The first section describes the need for and importance of information about managerial jobs in courts. The next section describes the development of the Michigan Court Management Inventory (MCMI), a research-based, job analysis questionnaire that was subsequently completed by over 60 percent of those who hold administrative positions within Michigan trial courts. The third section presents overall findings from an analysis of the MCMI data. Eight tables provide data on sample characteristics, overall MCMI index results, importance of management functions, top one-third of task items meeting the criterion of importance, comparison of all respondents to the top management subset, comparisons by court type, reliability test results, and items grouped by management function and effectiveness characteristic. The final section offers general conclusions and an overview of the principal implications of these findings for future Michigan Judicial Institute management training programs. Recommendations are made regarding training topics for groups of managers and major training needs. (YLB)
