This manual is designed for superintendents, principals, teachers, and interested community members who are conducting self-evaluations as prescribed by Ohio Minimum Standards for Elementary and Secondary Schools. Its objective is to provide districts with direction to engage in self-evaluation studies using assessment instruments that promote discussions of the programs and that provide a procedure for identifying problems and generating recommendations to ameliorate the problems. Although the evaluation of the educational program and resources is mandatory, the use of this document is optional. Process and survey instruments included in this document are designed to allow flexibility at the district level. Only one instrument is provided for each area to be evaluated. Assessment instruments for educational programs include: (1) philosophy of education and educational goals; (2) curriculum and instruction programs in general curriculum, business education, economics, English language arts, fine arts, foreign languages, health education, home economics, industrial arts, mathematics, physical education, reading, science, and social studies; (3) educational options; and (4) experimental program. Instruments for assessing educational resources are included for: (1) certificated and classified staff; (2) instructional materials and equipment, including library; (3) facilities; (4) pupil health and safety; (5) pupil cumulative records; (6) pupil admission, placement, and withdrawal; (7) pupil attendance and conduct; (8) school guidance services, and community relations program.
