Oklahoma School Testing Program. Summary Report: 1986. Metropolitan Achievement Tests, Grades 3, 7, 10.
Oklahoma State Dept. of Education, Oklahoma City.
The first annual administration of Oklahoma's School Testing Program is described, and the results for 1985-86 are summarized. The Metropolitan Achievement Tests were administered in grades 3, 7, and 10. Extensive appendices, which make up the bulk of this document, present: (1) suggested learner outcomes for the subjects tested--reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies; (2) norms for the state of Oklahoma; (3) average school district score data for the tests and subtests for Oklahoma students in grades 3, 7, and 10; (4) percent of scores under the normal curve equivalent scores; and (5) a 19-page guide to interpreting the test results. Data for the total testing program indicate that 609 of 613 public school districts returned testing documents and answer sheets. About 40,000 students were tested in each grade level. The average scores for 3rd, 7th, and 10th grade students placed their performance levels above national norms on all subtests except one; the tenth grade vocabulary average was equivalent to the 47th percentile. The Oklahoma students' greatest strengths appeared to be in language, science, social studies, and research skills. (GDC)
