Reviewing the functions and objectives of communication channels and the efforts of the United Nations and its member states to develop channels of communication with youth and youth organizations over the past decades is the focus of this document. An overview of national, regional, and international channels of communication is provided. Based in part on the findings of a meeting held at Vienna in January, 1984, the document provides recommendations on how United Nations bodies and agencies, individual governments, and governmental and private organizations at the national, regional, and international levels can improve communication between the United Nations and youth. An appendix containing excerpts from statements presented at the Vienna meeting to identify measures for strengthening channels of communication between the United Nations and youth and youth organization is included.
