Wages and Profit.
Zicht, Barbara, Ed.; And Others
Elementary Economist, v3 n1 1981-82
Providing teacher background on the concepts of wages and profits, paying particular attention to how elementary children experience and learn these concepts, this document presents 3 teaching units. The grade K-2 unit, "A Job Well Done," provides activities which focus on different types of jobs and the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards they provide. Activities include brainstorming, learning vocabulary words, reading, dramatic play, drawing, mural-making, writing, memory games, and word problems. The grade 3-4 unit, "Wonderful Window Washers," provides a simulated business experience where students take roles as consumers, managers/entrepreneurs, and workers for a window washing company. The grade 5-6 unit, "Profit Motivates," employs group problem solving situations, field trips to local businesses, a bulletin board, and crossword puzzle activities in order to teach children about the profit motive.
