Inventory of Academic Programs. Volume Five. Teacher Education Certification Programs. A Planning Document of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.
Alabama State Commission on Higher Education, Montgomery.
An inventory of teacher education certification programs approved for Alabama's public and private four-year colleges and universities as of June 1, 1986, is presented. In addition to the traditional certification programs approved by the State Board of Education in 1978-1979, two alternative certification programs are offered: Middle School Endorsement programs and Strengthened Subject Matter Option programs. Teacher education programs are classified according to a program taxonomy developed by the State Department of Education. Certificates for teachers and instructional support personnel are issued on the basis of completing approved programs of study beginning with the baccalaureate level (Class B) and advancing through fifth and sixth year levels (Class A and Class AA). For each college and program, there are charts for type of certification by level. The public and private colleges that provide teacher education programs include: Alabama A&M University, Alabama State University, Athens State College, Auburn University, Jacksonville State University, Livingston University, Troy State University, University of Alabama, University of Montevallo, Birmingham-Southern, Faulkner University, Huntington College, Judson College, Miles College, Mobile College, Oakwood College, Samford University, Spring Hill College, Stillman College, Talladege College, and Tuskegee University.
