Higher Education Financing in the Fifty States. Interstate Comparisons, Fiscal Year 1984. Fifth Edition.
Christal, Melodie E.; And Others
Information on state-level financing in higher education and on institutional revenues and expenditures is presented for fiscal year (FY) 1984, with trend data to FY 1980. In addition to a narrative analysis, extensive statistical tables show state rankings on about 50 factors involved in higher education finance. The state rankings cover state and local government finances, support of colleges and student financial aid, enrollment trends, and other trend data. State profiles provide a commentary on state conditions and trends and data on: state financing of higher education; revenues and expenditures of specific types of public and private colleges; trends in state and local appropriations, tuition and fees, and enrollment; trends adjusted for inflation; faculty salaries by academic rank and institutional category; and institutional characteristics by type of college. Included are data on the state's tax structure, state and local finances per capita, and expenditures for seven basic public programs. Data on total full-time equivalent enrollment and enrollment by student level are presented for specific categories of colleges and universities. Appended is a listing of institutions by classification, control, and state. (SW)
