This document presents the texts of two Senate hearings on S. 1156, the Child Victim Witness Protection Act of 1985. The text of the first hearing, held in Birmingham, Alabama, contains the text of S. 1156 and an opening statement by Senator Denton which summarizes the overall policy behind the bill. A statement by Senator McConnell is included. Robert B. Cramer, Jr., district attorney for Madison County, Alabama, testifies on behalf of the Children's Advocacy Center in Huntsville and the National Association of District Attorneys. H. Mark Kennedy, a circuit court judge in Montgomery testifies on behalf of the Children's Trust Fund in Montgomery. Michael C. Roberts, associate professor of psychology at the University of Alabama testifies on behalf of the Society of Pediatric Psychology of the American Psychological Association (APA). Also testifying are Gary L. Aldridge, Alabama State Senator; and Anita Armstrong Morgan, executive director of the Alabama crime victims compensation commission. The text of the second hearing, held in Washington, D.C., contains statements by Senators Denton and Specter, and testimonies by: (1) Lois Haight Herrington, U.S. Assistant Attorney General; (2) Ellen Greenberg, administrative officer for child, youth, and family policy, APA; (3) David S. Liederman, executive director of the Child Welfare League of America, Inc.; (4) Curtis L. Decker, government liaison for the National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems, Inc.; and (5) Suellen R. Galbraith, program director of the Alabama Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Program. An extensive set of materials submitted for the record is included. (NB)
