This manual is intended for individuals who are experiencing transitions that call for changes in relationships, routines, roles, or assumptions within the settings of work, school, family, health, or finances. It is intended to assist them in becoming aware that (1) transitions and change are inevitable and natural, (2) there are many resources and options for managing these events; and (3) through renewed focused awareness of values, competencies, and interpersonal skills, they may gain the competencies for coping with and managing transitions in the future. An introduction discusses conditions of change, the role of education, a model for self-empowerment, and transition skills. The manual is divided into four units: perspectives on transitions, perspectives on coping, perspectives on managing transitions, and learning from transition decisions. Each unit is based on an objective. Activities to enable the individual to achieve this objective are then provided. They include readings, questions, inventories, check lists, and exercises. Appendixes contain 84 pages of additional materials of these types. A bibliography concludes the manual. (YLB)
