Criterion Referenced Performance Tests for Measuring Task Proficiency.
Campbell, Clifton P.
This guide explains the benefits of and procedures for constructing and administering criterion-referenced performance tests in vocational education programs. Addressed in the individual sections are the following topics: the rationale for using task performance measures in vocational education; the predictive validity and physical fidelity of criterion-referenced performance tests; simulation; unitary and multiple tasks; development of a task performance measure; constraints of criterion-referenced performance testing (cost, equipment and facilities, time, personnel, and other constraints); measurement of products and/or processes; procedures for scoring (product and process ratings, checklists, rating scales, and establishment of cut-off scores); and validation. An appendix contains a sample task performance measure for use in a course to train chemistry technicians, a task performance measure worksheet, and sample evaluation criteria for a task performance measure.
