Mi Carrera. Volume IV: Effective Career Planning with Hispanic High School Students.
Douglas, Denise, Ed.
This curriculum guide, the fourth of a four-volume set that is intended to improve career and vocational guidance services to Spanish-speaking students in grades 9 through 12, is actually a collection of three different resources. The first section, "Group Activities: Intercambios," by Maria Garcia, is a model culturally based group counseling process that has been found to be useful in helping students assess who they are and the degree of control that they have over their own lives. Included in this section are a history of the model's development, suggestions for running an Intercambios program, and 12 student activities. The second section, "Parent Workshops," by Lois Locci and Carmen Ponce, consists of English and Spanish translations of handouts for parents as well as information that can be presented to parents in workshops. Materials dealing with the role of the high school parent, graduation requirements, considerations in planning for college, and help for students who do not plan to attend college are provided. Included in the third section, "Staff Resources," by Denise Douglas et al., are English and Spanish handouts to be used by counselors and reviews of additional Spanish language materials that may be ordered for use with students and parents.
