The second volume of a newsletter for integrating folk music into elementary and secondary social studies, literature, and humanities courses, this publication contains three issues of the newsletter which together offer a compilation of folksongs from various historical periods and cultures. The first issue of this volume contains miscellaneous announcements of folksong books and workshops; a collection of nine folk songs of the Civil War, including background information and instructional suggestions for the teacher; a bibliography of children's books on the Civil War; a description of a new piece of music for teaching about energy; and two checklists of free materials. The section issue contains reader's comments and letters; news of available workshops and materials; a collection of 10 folksongs about the Age of Whaling in New England; a rationale and suggestions for teaching about this historical period; a bibliography of children's and teacher's books on whaling; a free materials checklist; and extension ideas for teaching about whaling. Finally, issue 3, on children's songs, offers an article on lullabyes with notes, words and music for two hush-a-bye songs, an article on the use of folk music in teaching art, with the song, "Apple Pickers Reel," eight songe for preschool and elementary school children, and a bibliography and other information on resources.
