Seven concept papers are presented that focus on the changes needed in the mathematics curriculum, K-12, to make mathematics teaching in Oregon school districts more relevant to the mathematics used in today's technological society. Task forces developed the papers, which addressed the major issues of reform in the mathematics curriculum: elementary school mathematics, middle school mathematics, geometry, algebra, statistics and probability, meeting graduation requirements, and vocational and technical mathematics. Two strands of thought are common to all seven papers: mathematics should be taught with a "hands-on" approach, and mathematics disciplines should be incorporated as content strands throughout the curriculum. For each paper, a brief rationale is given, followed by a summary. In the papers, curriculum objectives are delineated and teaching methodology is discussed.
