The Language Proficiency Interview (LPI) and Its Applicability in Corporate Language Training Settings.
Stupak, Steven A.
The Language Proficiency Interview's structure, administration, and rating scale are outlined by an officer of the organization that designed it (Educational Testing Service), and some common mistakes made in its administration are listed. The need for training in the test's administration is emphasized. Its application in the corporate situation is discussed, and it is noted that because the test is not administered rapidly, initial screening for the test, as is currently done in Japan, may be appropriate. It is suggested that the advantages of administration without special equipment and the potential for effective assessment of communicative competence make the Language Proficiency Interview a useful instrument for candidates in corporations or language training centers requiring a rating of their speaking ability.
