A Case Study of Stress and Burnout: The Newspaper Adviser.
Broussard, E. Joseph; Butler, John M.
A review of literature relating to stress and burnout and its potential implications for further study of secondary school newspaper advisers reveals a number of areas that require attention. Stress can be created by administrators, other faculty members, students, the job itself, or the adviser's personal life. A study of advisers who have dealt successfully with burnout reveals that those persons have made an effort to share their successes as well as their problems with parents and administrators. Further research is needed to determine whether methods of alleviating burnout in other professions might be applicable to teachers. (A comprehensive bibliography of sources for dealing with stress and burnout is included.) (DF)
