Career Planning and Development. Review of Research: Part I.
Guay, Roland B.
This document contains a compendium of research on the career planning and development of college students and graudates. The objectives of this publication are to help individuals involved in career planning and development learn the research findings of studies conducted in the field and to provide guidance to researchers in the field regarding areas needing additional study. The introduction explains the organization of this publication and is followed by: (1) an outline of the career planning and development topics covered by this summary of research which include 24 influence variables and 10 career variables; (2) an index of topics from the outline; (3) an overall summary of the findings reported in the research abstracts; and (4) a brief discussion of areas in the field that appear to need additional research. The majority of this publication consists of 180 one-page research abstracts arranged alphabetically by author. Each abstract summarizes a different study conducted in the field. For each abstract, the title of the study, the author, and the publication source are listed. The remainder of the abstract briefly summarizes the problem, methodology, and major results of the study. The results are presented in a manner that makes them understandable to individuals without statistical training. While studies published through November 1982 are included in this review, plans to periodically update this publication are discussed. (NB)
