This document presents a report and supplemental views from the House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor concerning H.R. 4650, The Youth Suicide Prevention Act. An amendment to the bill is provided and a brief summary of the purpose of the Youth Suicide Prevention Act is given. Legislative background and consideration of the bill is reviewed and the need for the legislation is discussed. A section explaining the bill notes that the Youth Suicide Prevention Act establishes a discretionary grant program in the U.S. Department of Education to assist local educational agencies and private nonprofit organizations in establishing and operating youth suicide prevention programs. Other sections of this report address the issues of oversight, cost estimate, and inflationary impact of the Youth Suicide Prevention Act. A section-by-section analysis of the Act is provided and changes in existing law made by the new bill are explained.
