The Magic of Structure.

Part I of this two-part manual contains three sections on procedures and processes for planning and evaluating family planning education programs. Section 1 contains a working definition of evaluation and a description of its relationship to research, a presentation of the cyclical evaluation model upon which this manual is based, reasons why evaluation and planning are important, and an explanation of how this manual is structured. Section 2 explains how to devise a plan of action, write lists of priorities and goals, write behavioral objectives, evaluate objectives, and set standards in objectives. Section 3 presents the eight-step process of the cyclical evaluation model, explains the needs assessment process, examines the use of behavioral objectives, and discusses various aspects of program evaluation. The seven sections in Part II of this manual provide sources of reference materials and practical suggestions on the techniques and methodologies needed to implement the process outlined in Part I. The seven sections are: (1) locating and using other people's data; (2) how to write questionnaires; (3) writing tests; (4) surveys; (5) experimental research; (6) analyzing data; and (7) a thorough example. This document concludes with a selected bibliography, an index, and a glossary of terms. It is noted that, although the manual specifically refers to family planning education, the materials presented can be used in the fields of sexuality education and health education in general. (NB)
