Economic Value of Entrepreneurship. Special Publication Series No. 54.
Kurth, Paula, Ed.
This book was compiled to provide examples of partnerships between education and economic development agencies and to reinforce, with statistics, the importance of entrepreneurship in the U.S. economy. The first chapter, "Contributions of Small Business and Entrepreneurship Education to Economic Development," by E. Edward Harris, discusses economic development challenges and opportunities, the small business climate, small business incubators, and entrepreneurship education. The role of entrepreneurs in creating new economic opportunities and ways in which state education policy can promote entrepreneurship are outlined in the chapter contributed by Roger J. Vaughn, "Entrepreneurship, Economic Development, and Education." The third chapter, "Vocational Education's Expanding Role in Economic Development," provides an overview of vocational education's past and present role in fostering economic development. It consists of an introduction by Marj P. Leaming and P. Anthony Zeiss, followed by a paper by Zeiss describing the Pueblo Business Assistance Network and entitled "Local Initiative for Economic Development." Concluding the volume is a paper by the Illinois State Task Force on Entrepreneurship Education entitled "An Action Plan for Entrepreneurship Education in Illinois." A list providing sources of information on small business incubators, compiled by E.E. Harris, is appended. (MN)
