Information is provided on the history and current status of the Alabama community, junior and technical colleges. Following a map and directory of the 43 institutions in the two-year college system, a brief history is provided of the establishment and growth of the system, including information on the legislative authorization for the two-year colleges, dates of institutional establishment, and the program offerings of the 7 community colleges, 14 junior colleges, and 21 technical colleges. Next, a fact sheet presents data on enrollments, faculty, programs, accreditation, general fee or tuition, and philosophy, including the following information: (1) 1984 fall enrollment figures showed 55,752 students enrolled full- and part-time in state two-year colleges for credit courses; (2) minority students make up 23.7% of the headcount in state community colleges, 20.5% in junior colleges, and 35% in technical colleges; (3) the two-year colleges employ 1,835 full-time instructors and 1,242 support personnel; and (4) the maximum general fee for Alabama residents enrolled full-time is $150 per quarter.
