This document is designed to assist the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFP/I) in planning for the establishment of an information system for its members and other stakeholders who need information on educational facilities. The report focuses on the major activities to be accomplished and the issues to be considered when planning, developing, and establishing an information service. Following an introduction which outlines the scope, purpose and limitations of the report, the first of two volumes contains: (1) CEFP/I's Goals for an Information System; (2) Information Needs Assessment; (3) Literature of Educational Facilities; (4) Functions of an Information Service; (5) Technology Available to CEFP/I; (6) Models for the Development of Information Services; and (7) Recommendations. Appendices are contained in the second volume and include: Summary Results from Interviews; a Preliminary Questionnaire for an Information Needs Assessment; a List and Description of Resources for Information on Educational Facilities; a letter outlining an approach for implementing an automated data base management system (DBMS); detailed documentation on ENET (the Educational Network of Alberta Education), SpecialNet, ED-LINE and iNet 2000; and a 30-item selected bibliography. Both an executive summary and a summary report are provided in the first volume. (THC)
