This monograph on teacher labor market research is divided into six major sections. The first, a survey of related literature, describes the general context of teacher labor market research derived from the educational reform movement and then focuses on the particular issues of supply adequacy, teacher quality, career choice, attrition, and compensation. Following the literature survey, four sections summarize the results of research under four major topic areas: (1) supply and demand monitoring and forecasting; (2) career choice and recruiting; (3) attrition; and (4) compensation. Individual research project components are discussed as subheadings under each major topic. The final section is a synthesis of the findings of the various research components which includes a discussion of policy implications and a summary of future research needs.
