Holistic Environmental Education: Central to Necessary Reform in Elementary Science Education.

Holistic environmental education is viewed as a means of assisting in a long-term resolution of environmental degradation. Guidelines for a holistic environmental science curriculum are outlined for teachers and curriculum developers in this document. Major areas addressed include: (l) world views (discussing current and emerging paradigms and ideologies); (2) science education (providing suggestions for curricular modifications and adaptations); (3) holistic environmental science education (presenting models for developing environmental awareness, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors); (4) pedagogy (explaining the benefits of outdoor/inquiry learning, simulations, and case studies); (5) procedural frameworks (offering an example of how topics, skills, concepts and attitudes can be organized).
