A Cost Study of Resident Camps, 1985.
Ball, Armand, Ed.
Directors of 87 resident camps affiliated with the American Camping Association responded to a random sample survey and provided data to compile this first collection of camp operating ration tables. Fifty-three tables show average percentage of total, median percentage of total, average in dollars, and median in dollars statistics in 14 income and expense categories. Income ratio categories include camper fees, camperships, transport fees, activity fees, insurance fees, sales/trading post, sales/meals, rentals, contributions, interest/dividends, federal, subsidy, other, and total income. Expense ratios are given for salaries, payroll taxes, food and related, occupancy, camper transport, promotional, dues and fees, program, supplies, insurance, other administrative, proprietor, and total expenses. Each table also indicates average and median daily fees and average and median number of campers. Tables are arranged to show camp affiliation (private/independent, religious, agency/public), geographic location (New England, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest, West), camper population (boys only, girls only, coed), length of season, and size of budget (under $100,000, $100,000-$500,000, and over $500,000). Comparative salary data for various camp staff positions are also provided in nine tables. (NEC)
