Oceans: A Multi-Age, Integrated Subjects Curriculum Unit.
Hall, William D.
This curriculum unit on oceans for grades K-8 contains lesson plans, vocabulary lists, core activities, resource lists, and a student evaluation worksheet developed by rural Gallatin County, Montana, teachers as part of an inservice Rural Schools Integrated Curriculum Project administered by the Montana State University College of Education. The integrated approach serves the need of small rural multigrade classes for a unified approach to teaching and learning. The curriculum unit is designed so that teachers can expand it to accommodate all school subjects and specific student interests. Rationale and seven general objectives are followed by a list of core activities in reading, math, science, social studies, art, music, and health/physical education for each of three sub-units--plants and animals, industry, and transportation. Lesson plans organized by school subject and sub-unit are further divided into grade levels and lesson objectives. Each lesson plan lists objectives, activities, resource materials, and, where appropriate, instructions for an experience chart as well as a scope of lesson statement. Lesson plans separate activities by grade level where appropriate as well as offer integrated activities for all grades. A vocabulary list and resources list are divided by subject and K-4/5-8 grade levels. (LFL)
