An Overview and Plan for the Canadian Implementation of Computer Assisted Learning Courseware for Special Needs Children, Adolescents and Adults.
Sandals, Lauran
The paper reviews international research on computer assisted learning (CAL) for special populations and examines the issue in terms of the Canadian policy perspective. Data collection techniques included interviews and field observations with researchers, manufacturers, and policy makers. A generic model is proposed for special education computer applications. A review of research is followed by summary and evaluation of published and unpublished courseware. The potential courseware and related hardware developments based on the generic model are discussed. A concluding chapter proposes a national policy in terms of a federal/provincial governing board, a national dissemination and information network, and national and regional ongoing committees and task forces. A bibliography is followed by extensive appendixes which supply related information on resources, software, software and hardware companies, evaluation and information sources, and correspondence.
