"I Hear You."
Gordon, Thomas
The pamphlet is intended to show that communication works better than punishment in correcting children. Examples are cited of non-punishment reactions and messages in which parents tell their children how they feel about their actions, what parents don't like about it, and why. The importance of active listening is stressed and examples of its use in helping children feel understood are offered. Ways in which active listening works with verbal as well as preverbal children are noted. (CL)
